Mabee Observatory Educational Program

The observatory offers several ways that educators, scout leaders, etc., can utilize the facility to enrich the science experience of their students. Both on-site observations and remote web-based activities are possible. Students can begin and/or participate in some long term, ongoing experiments or just have an evening of viewing the heavens above.

Some activities include:

Astrometry - Measurement of the position of astronomical bodies; typically asteroids and planets and their satellites.

Photometry - Measurement of the apparent brightness of objects.

Spectroscopy - Observations and/or analysis of the visual spectra of astronomical objects.

CCD Imaging - Using a cooled, special, astronomical camera to take pictures through the telescopes.

Planetary Stack Imaging - A relatively new technique of using inexpensive webcams and powerful computers.

If you are interested in taking advantage of the observatory's abilities please feel free to contact us.
